2017 KYBELLA PHOTO CONTEST WINNER!
Injectable Submental Fat Treatment
Have you been struggling to reduce the size of a double chin? Stubborn submental fat along the underside of the chin is a common problem for many men and women–even despite healthy diet and exercise. While facial liposuction can be an effective option to sculpt this lower portion of the face, many of our patients come to our Seattle plastic surgery practice looking for a less-invasive option. For this, we recommend Kybella.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a non-surgical way to reduce problem fat cells that can often linger beneath the chin and jawline–sometimes giving off the appearance of a “double chin.” This injectable procedure uses an active ingredient known as deoxycholic acid, which is FDA approved for the treatment of submental fat cells. Once injected beneath the skin, the deoxycholic acid causes the targeted fat cells to deactivate and ultimately be flushed from your body. The end result is a slimmer, well-contoured facial profile and chin.
How does Kybella treat excess chin fat?
This injectable fat reduction treatment is performed in-office at the Larrabee Center for Plastic Surgery in Seattle. Dr’s. Wayne Larrabee and Sapna Patel will carefully analyze your current condition and listen to your expectations to help determine if Kybella is right for you. Alternative treatments include facial liposuction, with which Dr’s. Larrabee and Patel can also help achieve natural-looking outcomes.
During your Kybella treatment, Dr Patel and our nurse injectors will mark the targeted injection sites beneath the chin using a specially designed template. This will ensure an even and natural-looking reduction of the unwanted fat. With each injection, a small amount of Kybella will be administered into the underlying fat cells, causing them to gradually “shut off” and be naturally flushed from your body.
Dr’s. Larrabee and Patel often recommend a series of multiple Kybella treatment sessions to achieve optimal results. This will be based on the amount of fat you are looking to treat, as well as your desired outcome.

Our Aesthetic Nurse Injectors specialize in the Art of Injectables. We operate in a true Medical Spa atmosphere with one of the best facial plastic surgeons in Seattle. During your consult, your face will be analyzed for excessive movement and pulling of muscle groups that will lead to permanent wrinkle formation and heaviness in the face. We will look at volume loss that has happened as a result of genetics and time. We want to explore what the possibility of restoring youthful volume would look like. Our goal is to soften and refresh, making your friends think your secret is meditation and yoga. To achieve our goal, we will suggest a treatment to relax certain muscle groups with a product such as Botox Cosmetic. If volume loss is your main concern, we will discuss soft tissue fillers such as the natural hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvéderm, Restylane, Belotero and Voluma) or Radiesse or Sculptra.
RELAX with Botox® Cosmetic or Dyport®
Our injectors are known for the best Botox results in the Seattle and Bellevue area. We have specials such as “the Botox Bank” and use of the Brilliant Distinctions program to give you the best savings on your treatment.
What’s all the buzz about Botox? It provides you with a relatively inexpensive, non-surgical option for facial rejuvenation that can be done during an office visit.
What is Botox®?
Botox® is botulinum toxin, a substance that has the ability to paralyze muscular activity.
How does Botox work?
Muscular activity causes overlying skin wrinkles. By injecting Botox® into the muscles causing these lines, the skin is smoothed out and in some cases, lines and wrinkles are completely erased. This therapy is very safe, as the amounts injected for cosmetic use are so small that there are no ill effects.
How long does Botox last?
The benefit of this treatment is temporary, lasting 3 to 6 months depending on the individual.
Botox® is not for:
- Pregnant or nursing mothers
- People who are allergic to human albumin
- People who have muscular and neurological disorders such as myasthenia gravis or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – Eaton Lambert Syndrome.
Where can it be used?
- Frown lines (between the eyes)
- Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
- Underarms (for severe underarm sweating)
What should I expect during my Botox treatment?
The treatment usually takes between 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how many lines need to be treated. Injection of Botox® in Seattle causes minimal discomfort–similar to receiving local anesthesia for dental work. Following the injection, there may be some slight redness and swelling that quickly resolves.
What should I expect after my treatment with Botox in Seattle?
After treatment, we recommend that you do not rub the injection site for 12 hours. Do not participate in heavy physical activity for at least 12 hours. Some tingling may be felt in the injected area. The beginning effects are usually seen at 48 to 72 hours after injection with the maximum effect at one week. Botox® is not permanent and will have to be repeated, usually every 3-6 months. If a line persists following treatments, you may need additional treatments (laser skin resurfacing, injectable fillers, chemical peels) to help smooth persistent lines.
What is Dysport®?
Prescription Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of your moderate-to-severe frown lines without changing the look of your whole face. The untreated facial muscles still work normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas.
Dysport is a formulation that has been shown to deliver temporary improvement in repeat treatments that are comparable to your first treatment.

Restore Facial Volume with Injectable Soft-Tissue Fillers
Here at the Larrabee Center, we employ a variety of different hyaluronic acid facial fillers, so our patients can enjoy the benefits of a full array of products–each of which excels in its unique purpose. Some, such as Belotero, Juvéderm, and Restylane, are incredibly effective when it comes to treating wrinkles of various skin depths while thicker fillers, like Juvéderm Voluma or Perlane, have proven invaluable at restoring lift and plumping the cheeks.
Let’s take a quick look at the fillers our doctors recommend and the benefits of each.
One of the most popular fillers available today, Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. HA is found naturally in the body and is useful in helping to restore skin structure and maintaining a supple appearance and feel. Not only does it provide great results, but Juvéderm is completely safe, with minimal side effects.
Benefits of Juvéderm:
- Effectively smoothes out sagging skin
- Helps limit laugh lines and reduce deep folds
- Successfully augments thin lips
- Is excellent at restoring volume to the cheeks
Also a HA filler, part of what sets Juvéderm Voluma™ apart is that while many other fillers require a period of months before they take full effect, the positive results of Voluma can be seen right away. Voluma is the only filler approved by the FDA for adding volume to the cheeks.
Add volume instantly to all regions of the cheek:
The positive effects of a single treatment of Juvéderm Voluma™ can last as long as two years.
Developed using Vycross® technology, JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® allows for a lower concentration of HA to be used, which results in less swelling. Not only is there less downtime, the treatment itself is made as pain-free as possible by the built-in lidocaine anaesthetic. It is the first and only FDA-approved filler proven to increase lip fullness and correct perioral lines for up to one year.
What Juvéderm ® Volbella ® lip injections can do for you:
- Diminish vertical lip lines (aka smoker’s lines)
- Accentuate the border of your lips
- Plump up your lips to make them fuller
- Enhance the cupid’s bow (the “M” part of your mid-upper lip)
Juvéderm Vollure™ XC
Introducing the newest member of the popular Juvéderm hyaluronic acid filler family. Vollure is an excellent option for softening the appearance of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, helping to restore a younger, smoother appearance of the skin.
Vollure is great for:
- Treating parentheses lines or folds around the nose and mouth (nasolabial fold)
- Softening marionette lines
- Providing long-lasting results up to 18 months (individual patient results may vary)
This is one of the newer fillers on the market to gain FDA approval for wrinkle treatment. Excellent at treating fine lines because its active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is thinner than the HA found in many other fillers, Belotero Balance® is particularly useful for the treatment of:
- The thin, fine lines that occur under (and between) the eyes
- The fine lines that develop around the mouth
- Superficial wrinkles (ones that develop close to the surface of the skin)
Radiesse® is a “stimulatory filler,” which means that it stimulates growth of new collagen in the body. In fact, not only does it help the body produce its own, natural collagen, but over time it gets metabolized by the body, such that all it leaves behind is the natural substance your face needs to stay fresh. Radiesse is incredibly good at rejuvenating specific facial features. We use it to:
- Eliminate wrinkles
- Lessen severe lines
- Create a crisp jaw line
- Alleviate sunken temples
- Restore volume to cheekbones
- Give you a clean, defined profile
As an injectable gel, Restylane L® is highly effective at adding youthful volume and clean contours to your face. One of the chief benefits of Restylane is that it brings you positive effects that you’ll notice right away, regardless of whether it’s been used to treat wrinkles, restore volume, or bring fullness back to the lips.
Restylane is ideally suited for:
- Rejuvenating laugh lines
- Treating marionette lines
- Adding enhancing volume to both the upper and lower lips
- Filling in lipstick lines
Because it’s a formulation of hyaluronic acid (HA) that’s designed to act in synch with the HA that’s naturally present in your body, Perlane® is tremendously good at restoring and maintaining high levels of skin suppleness and structure.
At the Larrabee Center, we employ Perlane to:
- Eliminate smile lines
- Add volume to temple hollows and under-eye hollows
- Bring lift to sunken cheeks
- Treat marionette lines
Sculptra® has certainly earned its spot on the list of fillers that Dr. Larrabee recommends to his patients, and he uses it with tremendous success. It’s important to note, though, that Sculptra isn’t a “filler” in the same sense as many others. Instead of adding new volume directly to the treated area, Sculptra works by stimulating the production of new collagen in your body, and it’s this new, natural collagen that is responsible for the subsequent increase in volume.
Sculptra works to produce new volume and definition in:
- Sunken cheeks
- Temple hollows
- Hollows under the eyes
- The chin
- The jaw line
- Smile lines
